Whether you read the verses for reflection or not, consider the depth of God’s love expressed when He came as Jesus and when He came/still comes to you. It might be helpful to think about how Mary “treasured” and “pondered” all of the events of the night of Jesus’ birth and what those words mean, not just to us but in the context of those who were reading the Gospel of Luke for the first time:
To “treasure” is to keep after observing, to preserve or keep safe, to do more than remember by allowing that which is treasured to inform (probably even transform) you to the core, i.e., “Mary … treasured … and pondered … in her heart.”. The belief, and practice, was that the “heart” was the core of who the person is – thoughts, feelings, will, etc. So, Mary’s “treasures” were now “locked” into the core of who she was.
This word “ponder” is more than just meditation; it involves piecing together different events, thoughts, words, etc. and stitching them together to see the larger picture, the bigger scope. In the NT, this word is used to portray acts of the “throwing together” of minds, plans, or people to bring about something new and transformative, always serving the bigger purpose of God’s redemptive plan.
“Piece” together your thoughts of God’s love for you in His Birth, in the continual gift of His Presence through The Holy Spirit, and let it, let Him, continue to inform & transform you.
